Job Description : The Education Coordinator position assists the Education Program in processing scholarship applications during scholarship seasons by assisting students with online application process and ensuring all eligibility documents are received for review and process of scholarships. The incumbent is willing to assist other program staff with Camp Sivunniigvik and Language and Culture Programs, as needed, to fulfill the mission of Aqqaluk Trust.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists the Education Program Leader with reviewing incoming applications, assists students with the online application process, and tracking incoming documents for 300-400+ award recipients, annually.

Assists incoming student inquiries, through email or telephone, about status of their applications.

Assists Education Program with student outreach and communications on scholarship deadlines.

Assists with compiling and maintaining statistical data on scholarship recipients (i.e., village, year in school, degree or certificate program, GPA, completion statistics. Presents data in format to highlight student success.)

May assist with Annual Community Outreach to promote educational opportunities to each of the Villages in the NANA Region, may include other locations as needed throughout the State of Alaska. (i.e. Student dinners, fundraisers involving students, student events).

Promotes and supports student involvement in the Aqqaluk Trust Scholarship program through social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and college/university visits.

Assists Education Program Leader with the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) for College Goal Alaska FAFSA Night for Kotzebue and villages utilizing Chukchi Staff and community.

Maintains student files and scholarship eligibility documents.

Assists in development of media and program promotional material with various program staff for education, Camp Sivunniigvik, language, and culture.

Assists Executive Assistant in preparation of board meeting packets, as needed.

Be willing to work extra hours during high scholarship processing season, which may include weekends.

Other various duties and projects may be assigned to advance the mission and objectives of Aqqaluk Trust.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience.

Demonstrated work experience with the ability to be detail oriented.

Demonstrated work experience that support a team-oriented environment.

Strong analytic, written, and verbal communication, and organizational skills are required.

Proficiency with computer equipment and software: MS Windows Operating System, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) – strong emphasis on proficiency with database programs.

Willing to learn to process applications on an online scholarship application system.

Ability to compose business correspondence.

Proficient with proper grammar, good vocabulary, spelling, proofreading, and editing.

Ability to travel, as necessary, to fulfill the mission of The Aqqaluk Trust.

Willing to learn the Inupiaq language.

Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of postsecondary institutions and student financial aid requirements, preferred.

Experience with web-based applications and database management, preferred.

A valid Alaskan driver’s license is preferred.

Competencies

Ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks and application deadlines with a high degree of detail

Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and customer service

Use of basic office equipment such as copiers, printers, fax machine, copiers, and postage machine

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Environmentally controlled, requires most work to be done inside. May occasionally be exposed to harsh outdoor weather conditions.

Noise level: Quiet to Moderate

Environment: Office environment with customer interaction both in person, over the phone and by email. The pace of the work environment is moderate.

Travel: Up to 25% of the time.

Physical requirements: Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Must constantly be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms. Will occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch.
