Essential Duties
Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and proceduresInspect trucks and trailer(s) for defects through pre-trip, mid-trip and post-trip inspections and submit reports indicating their conditionOperate a variety of trucks and equipment under a variety of conditions, adhering to posted speed limits and all other local, state, and federal laws and regulationsMaintain driver e-logs and e-maintenance logs according to State and Federal regulationsMake customer pick-ups in a manner that reflects superior customer serviceSpot and park trucks to warehouse, chock wheels, and assist in unloading freightMaintain contact with dispatcher to receive accurate dispatch instructions and report safety hazards and/or incidents involving the driver or any company equipmentEnsure that cargo is secured for transport according to the FMCSRsMaintain a clean work environment including swept trailer, clean cab, windows, and mirrorsDetermine discrepancies in paperwork and make correctionsVerify proper placarding when hauling HAZMATOther duties as assigned
Qualifications
High school education or a GED equivalentClass A CDL driver’s license with all endorsements, including HAZMATDoubles certification preferred, but not requiredTwo to three years of verifiable safe local/bulk/heavy haul driving experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have excellent written, verbal and listening communication skillsWilling to learn and take instructions with a positive attitudeAptitude to safely transport heavy and oversize loads; handle heavy chains and blockingAbility to learn to load and unload machinery to a lowboy trailer; flatbed securement
Familiar with dove/beaver tail trailers, as well as 40-65 ton RGN preferredAble to work various shifts, days of the week, overtime and occasional overnight/out-of-town workMust have a current passport or birth certificate, with the ability to enter Canada and military installationsMust be customer focused and represent Carlile in a professional and friendly mannerMust be able to prioritize daily tasks and assignmentsMust pay attention to detail and accuracyMust be able to multitask and have excellent time management skillsMust be able to drive in adverse weather conditions, ice, snow, rain, etc.Must have experience with lift gates, pallet jacks, bulkers, tankers, flatbed securement experience etc.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions (snow, ice, rain, wind, etc.). The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vehicle vibration. The employee will also be exposed to high density road traffic as well as inter-city traffic.
