Job Description : Position is located at the Food City Distribution Center in Abingdon, VA.

Located in Abingdon, VA, K-VA-T Food Stores owns and operates the over 1.1 million square-foot Food City Distribution Center. Warehouse Associates perform a variety of duties from Order Selectors to Mechanics to Truck Drivers. The facility is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and includes a dry distribution center, a refrigerated distribution center, a transportation department, and a truck maintenance department. Order Selector/Picker –
Jobs starting at $17.50/hr. up to top out rate of $19.57/hr.
Selects warehouse items under engineered labor standards from correctly assigned aisle; heavy merchandise placed on the bottom and lightweight merchandise on top of pallet(s) while also reporting any shorted product through our Labor Management System, VoCollect.
Stacks products, as they are picked, on pallets, according to specifications to ensure maximum cube utilization with minimum damage.
Cleans up spills from damaged merchandise and transports it to the damaged goods’ area. Transports completed orders to the shipping dock area either loading or staging depending on order type.
Places order in the designated ‘bay’ on the shipping dock
Selects reworked merchandise whenever possible.
Follows specified procedures in handling out-of-stock situations. Moves incoming or outgoing merchandise throughout the distribution center by hand or forklift equipment.
Obtains and interprets pick list or labels to assemble correct product.
Secures pallets with plastic wrap for shipment to stores.

Assists with bottling of water to include various bottling line positions.
Assists with wrapping of pallets for shipping.
Assists with bottling, testing, quality control, and sanitation duties.
Assists with other miscellaneous duties as assigned, including trash pick-up, and keeping of the grounds.
Unloads trailers and receives merchandise, such as boxes, bottles, labels, and other supplies.
Forms and seals boxes.
Places boxes on pallets.
Loads trailers.
Records activities to include the recording of discarded products and/or containers.
Conforms to all good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
Conforms to HACCP programs and all IBWA standards of quality.
General Warehouse
Assists with cleaning, to include trash pick-up.
Assists with wrapping of pallets on shipping dock area.
Assists order selector when needed.
Assists with damage and rework merchandise when needed.
Assists with restocking of merchandise items.
Other duties as required.
Transportation Maintenance Fueler
Perform all tasks assigned by supervisor in a safe and timely manner.
Keep work area neat and clean
Abide by all company policies and governmental regulations.
Get tractor and reefer hour meter and hubometer readings
Fuel reefer units and tractors.
Complete proper paperwork.
Clean windows.
Clean inside of cab.
Check oil and water in reefers and tractors.
Truck Driver
Performs pre-trip inspection of equipment: checking for fluid leaks, damage to tires, service brakes (including trailer brake connections), all lights and trailer electrical connections, coupling devices (including visual inspection of fifth-wheel), jaws around the shank of the trailer slider and locking pins, flaps, heater and defroster, batter boxes, safety equipment, oil pressure, air pressure, abnormal engine noise, wheel lug nuts, etc. Pre-trip inspection to include making at least one test stop before exiting the parking lot.
Fuels equipment, as needed. Checks water and oil. Adds coolant and oil, as needed.
Drives over generally established routes to make deliveries and pick-ups.
Assists in loading and unloading merchandise. Some lifting and pulling/pushing of pallet jacks are required.
Prepares paperwork as specified in procedures. Attention to detail, accurate counting, and reporting of products delivered and/or picked up must be adhered to.
Picks up empty trailers for return, which involves detaching the tractor from the trailer, cranking up landing gear, and reattaching the tractor to the other trailers.
Performed yard-switching duties, as required.
Assumes responsibility for assuring familiarity and adherence with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation.
Job Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Experience working in warehouse operations is a plus, but not required.
Ability to meet standard Physical, Mental, and Visual demands.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks, and have constant contact with various levels of individuals daily.
Ability to attend on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies.
