Position : Accountant, SLCC Foundation
Job Description : Provide accounting and financial support to the SLCC Foundation and its endowment funds. Prepare, analyze, record, and maintain accurate financial records. Prepare various financial reports, annual financial statements and required tax returns. Assist the College Development Office in resolving financial related problems or issues. Monitor compliance with financial related policies, procedures, laws, regulations and established internal controls.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Provide accounting and financial support to the SLCC Foundation and its endowment funds. Prepare, analyze, record, and maintain accurate financial records.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting entries, that all receipt, disbursement, asset and liability transactions are properly posted in the College’s accounting system via preparation of journal entries, and entered into the Foundation’s subsidiary ledger system.
Reconcile subsidiary accounting data with the College accounting system and resolve differences.
Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepare various financial reports, annual financial statements, and the required 990 tax return. Work with external auditors regarding the gathering of requested information and resolution of audit issues and findings.
Ensure that prior audit recommendations are properly implemented.
Recognize errors or problems, analyze, and interpret financial data and assist in decision-making processes.
Consult and advise Development Office Director regarding proper application and compliance with financial practices, rules, and regulations.
Monitor financial or business processes and internal controls to ensure they are functioning as designed.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Preferred Qualifications
Accounting experience with not-for-profit entities.
Experience working with endowment funds.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting.
2 years of related, full time accounting experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of basic FASB accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of internal controls, such as cash receipting and disbursement control systems.
Basic knowledge of budgeting techniques.
Ability to prepare basic budget and financial reports, organize and analyze data.
Knowledge of general office procedures and ability to operate basic office equipment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to communicate effectively with others in English, both verbally and in writing.
Possess group presentation skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities and special needs.
