Position : Deputy – Court Security

Job Description : Primary Responsibility: Under general supervision, performs general law enforcement work to enforce the laws -Local, State and Federal-and to safeguard the lives, property and rights of the residents of Gilpin County. Work involves responding to complaint calls, preparing reports, apprehending violators or suspects, and screening all incoming patrons to secured areas.Supervised by: SergeantIn absence of Sergeant, use chain of command established by Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office.Supervises: N/AFLSA status: Non-ExemptSalary Information: The pay range is $31.64 per hour – $46.22 per hour. The hiring range is DOQ into the current Sheriff’s Office step pay program.Main Job Duties: Maintains security and control of an assigned area of facility, supervises activity, directs visitors, operates security screening devices, prepares various reports and logs and conducts periodic inspections.Maintains peace and order in the courts and throughout the Gilpin County Justice Center to include responding to panic and fire alarms throughout the Justice Center, determining the location of the incident and requesting assistance to that area.Prevents violence, breaking up fights and subduing combative situations as necessary. Performs crisis intervention as needed, etc.Verifies identity of patrons and ensures authorized access to the State and County offices at the Justice Center.Provides backup support for Deputies if the need should arise and there is sufficient coverage in Courts at the time of the need.Communicates with inmates/public including, but not limited to; providing information and directions, advising of rights and processes, listening to and investigating complaints, and resolving conflicts and problems.May supervise inmates on work assignments in the Court area.Transports or escorts inmates for their criminal justice proceedings.Serves assigned court documents and maintains records of disposition.Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and database programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information on inmates.Prepares various logs, forms and reports, incidents of violations, notable behavior, potential safety hazards, problems with facility hardware, criminal activity, summons, etc.Attends seminars, classes lectures, etc., as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the field of law enforcement.Takes persons into custody on arrest warrants and makes arrests based on probable cause.Maintains cleanliness of assigned workstation, uniform and weapon.Provides basic medical attention in emergencies, including CPR, as required.Maintains office proficiency standards in the use of firearms.Performs duties in the jail when not assigned to court.Additional Job Duties: Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by Sergeants, Captain or Undersheriff and any duties needed to stabilize an emergency situation.Prepares monthly statistical report for court security grant.Hours: Must be available for shift work, to include weekends, holidays and on-call coverage.Additional Information: The Gilpin County Court Security position is an opportunity for POST certified deputies to maintain POST certification without working full time. Written exam and oral board dates will be announced and out recruiter will work with you on those dates.
