Overview

This position requires full charge bookkeeping skills under direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer. Performs general accounting functions and other related duties in daily administration of the clinic accounting.

Duties & Responsibilities

Create weekly vendor payment batch from AP Clerk, reviewing coding for accuracy and submitting batch information to the Seldovia Accountant for printing of checks. Attach documentation to check copy before filing. Submit ACH payment batch to CFO for review/upload.
Resolve questions from vendors or program managers regarding payment of invoices.
Review monthly finance reports and submit to CFO for review. Monitor budget to actual reports for each grant and communicate any discrepancies to CFO.
Monitor and reconcile accounts receivables collection from individuals and/or institutions. Post receipts and reconcile weekly.
Assist outside auditors at year-end to include preparing schedules, invoices, explanation of supporting materials and procedures.
Perform month-close in accordance with the Tribe’s procedures as directed by the CFO.
Enter and post monthly payroll advances.
Assist CFO in preparation of quarterly, periodic and annual grant reports for all funding agencies
Perform monthly payroll for all employees and submit to CFO and CEO for review.
Prepare monthly 401K employee contribution report and upload for payment.
Maintains and updates vendor tax exempt status.
Maintain vendor files to include contract agreements, W-9, and proof of workman’s compensation insurance. Work with SVTHC accountant to verify, prepare and mail annual 1099 reports for overall SVT organization.
Oversee nutraceutical inventory
Perform weekly manual reconciliation of petty cash accounts.
Assist with revision of accounting policies and procedures.
Actively participate in one of the SVTHW committees as assigned.
Performs other tasks as assigned by Chief Financial Officer
Cross train with Seldovia Accountant.
Maintain asset management data base. Perform annual inventory of all equipment owned by SVT during September of each year in preparation for annual audit. Create listing of equipment that has been damaged, no longer works and /or is no longer in use for submission to CFO, CEO and Tribal Council for disposal.
Act as backup Tribal Benefits Officer for SVT medical benefits in the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) Plan to include enrolling eligible employees in vision, dental, group life and accident/disability, and employee Voluntary Life plans when the HR Director is not available.
Protect the security of all patient medical/dental records or information to ensure that confidentiality is maintained following HIPAA and PPI regulations as outlined in SVTHW policy and procedures.

Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or directly related field OR combination of Associate’s Degree or Certificate in directly related field + Work Equivalent, Strongly Preferred. Will consider applicants with work equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree requirement.

Experience

5 years minimum of general accounting experience, required. Some Governmental or Healthcare Accounting experience a plus.

Certifications/Licensure

CPR/First Aid/AED – Provided by SVT

Travel

Some travel to Seldovia may be required up to 3 times per year to cross-train with Seldovia accountant or assist CFO as needed. Travel occurs by small plane or boats and generally conducted as day travel, weather permitting.
Work Environment

Seldovia Village Tribe is a drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free work environment. Seldovia Village Tribe conducts drug-testing of employees in accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act. An individual in this position may be exposed to communicable diseases or hazards common to a healthcare setting, however, will not be located within an area directly inside healthcare operations. The office will be located in an office building, but may require some work to occur at the SVT Health and Wellness offices, where the office environment has shared spaces between administrative staff and patient-facing staff such as break rooms and restrooms. This position takes place in a typical office setting with long periods of sitting and heavy computer use.
