Job Description : Essential Functions Lumber Yard Assistant Manager

production,
maintenance,
quality control
profitability
Strive to continuously improve all areas of yard performance
Establish and monitor overall plant performance for safety, production, profitability, and quality standards
Aware of OSHA regulations and maintain the facility and equipment in accordance within local, state, and federal rules and regulations
Assisting to Control and minimize labor overtime and repair expenses at each location
Assisting to make sure rail cars are unloaded each day by providing team support and organization
Assisting to make sure trucks are loaded out with correct order and in a timely fashion
Customer Focused

Flexibility
Excellent organization skills
Can use MS Office (excel and outlook)
Will be trained on a inventory management system
Experience completing and processing paperwork for Shipping & Receiving
Experience working within a fast paced Trucking/Logistics environment.
Experience working with a lumber operation is a big plus but not required
Familiarity with operating a large lift truck and other material handling equipment (will train further on the job)
Must be able to work well within a crew / team
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds from time to time
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English (Spanish is a plus)
MUST BE VERY RELIABLE (On time and good attendance)
This position reports directly to the facility General Manager with room for advancement
This position is responsible for assisting in supervising all activities of yard and warehouses, including personnel and equipment, as well as receiving, stocking, pulling, loading and delivery of merchandise (lumber & building supplies) to maintain proper control of inventory
Individual will be responsible for ensuring yard personnel provide prompt and courteous service to customers and professional contractors along with maintaining a safe, clean and well organized lumber yard
Unload or oversee the unloading of incoming merchandise and proper storage of merchandise in lumberyard and warehouses
Check delivery tickets against purchase orders to ensure that merchandise is correct by Customer, type of product and quantities
Notifies Manager of shortages or damage of incoming merchandise when applicable
Directs workers in loading, unloading and movement of materials in the yard utilizing material handling equipment and machinery; oversees receiving of yard materials and instructs yard workers in receiving and storage procedures (i.e., stocking, facing, straightening, and cleaning or any other task necessary to maintain appearance of products within lumberyard)
Accurately build loads and prepare materials for delivery before delivery takes place
Inspects loading operations for outgoing delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits and safety regulations; prepares and reconciles bills of lading and packing slips
Greet and assist customers or professional contractors in a friendly manner upon entry into the lumberyard
Responsible for ensuring the yard area and warehouses are maintained, organized, and stocked in accordance with Company standards (i.e., work and customer areas are clear of trash, weeds, or other obstacles to allow for a safe and clean work environment)
Provides on-the-job training to new yard employees including product knowledge of items stored in yard and warehouse and housekeeping and safety procedures
Ensure compliance with Company operational safety and security policies and procedures
Perform any other assigned job duties, responsibilities or tasks as requested by the Manager

Physical Demands: Talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must frequently lift and move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Vison abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
