Position : Workers’ Compensation & Disability Claim Manager
Job Description : Oversees all claims management activities associated with occupational injury/illness (primarily), non-occupational disability, and unemployment claims. Supports liability mitigation and cost containment efforts by serving as day-to-day risk manager on claim specific matters. Acts as a point of escalation for other, non-occupational disability claim issues. Contributes to the coordination of benefits, including return to/remain at work services (RTW) and Family Medical Leave (FML) for employees filing workers’ compensation claims. Appears for OSU at Administrative Industrial Commission Hearings incoordination with TPA or assigned legal counsel; determines appropriateness for claim referral to legal counsel
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for end-to-end claim management including investigating claims by determining applicable policy coverage, contacting employees, supervisors, and all other relevant parties, reviewing and treatment requests for approval of denial, and determining claim compensability
Prepares files for hearing, settlements, denials of claims, and an individual evaluation of benefits
Attends hearings at the Ohio IC and FCCCP as a representative of Ohio State
Identifies options for cost containment and settlement of claims
Reviews legal filings for accuracy and timeliness and coordinates unemployment claims
Coordinates medical exams and claim file reviews with TPA vendor and reviews, resolves billing issues
Supervises student employee as needed
