Job Summary
The Assistant Dean of Finance and Operations will report directly to the Dean of the David Eccles School of Business. Working collaboratively with the senior management team and professional staff, this position will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategy and overall leadership of the School. This position directs and supervises operations and strategic planning of accounting and financial functions, including general accounting, payroll, cost accounting, budget development, implementation and monitory, and treasury. This position also oversees IT, operations, and facilities and works closely with human resources. Working with the Dean’s team, this position also supports the University of Utah’s goals and mission and acts as a catalyst between departments, faculty, and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service.
Responsibilities
1) Direct the development and implementation of financial short- and long-term revenue and financial models to ensure attainment of goals and objectives that are consistent with the David Eccles School of Business and University of Utah’s goals and objectives.
2) Direct compilation of data used to prepare budgets and accounts; coordinating appropriations while balancing University fund requirements.
3) Provide strategic direction by, estimating budgetary requirements for staff, space and equipment planning, and implementing special projects and policies.
4) Develop strategies consistent with the University of Utah’s continuous quality improvement program.
5) Work closely with the University’s human resource management team, including recruitment and retention of assigned staff.
6) Forecast staffing, capital and operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on market sensitivity, financial analysis, space utilization review, staff performance evaluation, etc.
7) Oversee the analysis and determination of appropriate staff mix to support the programs and faculty/student needs.
8) Participate in university-wide committees to establish customer service and administrative plans and policies.
9) Facilitate cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
10) Oversee all DESB legal contracts, coordinating with the Office of General Council for reviews and the Senior Academic Affairs department for signatures.
11) Oversee all new and existing building projects and debt payments thereon to verify that the financial models are viable and debt payments are made as required.
12) Assist with donor relations in preparing and explain donor accounts, earnings, disbursements and account balances.
13) Understand the University’s Procurement procedures and work with the procurement director to resolve issues and advise on processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related area, or equivalency. Master’s degree and CPA strongly preferred. Eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communications skills required. Applicants must demonstrate experience negotiating complex contacts. Prefer candidates with experience managing IT, Facilities and Operations departments. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
