Job Description : The Child Support Services Division is recruiting for multiple Child Support Specialist 1’s to fill full-time permanent positions in our Anchorage Office.

What you will be doing:
The mission of the Child Support Services Division is to collect and disburse child support payments. We strive to ensure children receive their support through cooperation, collaboration, and using innovation to drive our success with the communities, partners, and families we serve. The Child Support Specialist I represents the full working professional level involved as a team member in the establishment, modification, and/or collection of child support. Under general supervision, as a member of the customer service center or a case management team, this position determines, performs or directs performance of required actions in case preparation and investigation to collect court-ordered or administratively determined child support payments from responsible parents, to determine paternity, to establish child support orders and to maintain quality customer service.

In your role you will have a direct influence on the agency’s ability to effectively and efficiently attain federal and department goals and objectives. Working in specialized teams, your position will require you to perform duties independently as well as the ability to work directly with other co-workers and teams across the agency. The work is high volume, fast-paced, and challenging within an administrative office environment.

Who we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the following key job tasks:
Conducting interviews and performing in-depth reviews of court and administrative child support orders
Calculating monthly child support obligations
Interpreting and applying program rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and effectively communicating program information and requirements in precise and understandable terms, both verbally and in writing
Analyzing household income documents (including tax returns, pay stubs, and employer reports) and expenses, and enforcing the collection of payments on delinquent or past-due accounts
Ability to type a minimum of 35 gross words per minute with an accuracy rate of 95% or higher
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in a child support agency performing complex clerical or accounting tasks related to enforcement or collection activities. This experience is equivalent to some Accounting Clerk or Office Assistant 2 positions with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
OR

Two years of experience directly applying statutes, regulations, program requirements, or similar criteria or guidelines, used to process, review, and evaluate:
applications for employment, programs or services, loans, licenses, and/or permits; or,complex documents associated with, but not exclusively limited to insurance or employment benefit enrollment or claims, investigations or collections and similar activities, tax processing, investment, or real estate transactions.
OR

Two years of experience involving extensive person-to-person contact, explaining policies, procedures, services, or requirements; eliciting or exchanging information as related to requirements or procedures; providing formal or informal instruction or training to people; or interviewing.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Special Note: some positions require incumbents pass a background investigation to meet security requirements for access to State and national databases.
