Job Description : OUR MISSIONBen Franklin Transit (BFT) provides exceptional and cost-effective transportation services that consistently exceed customer expectations while promoting the principles and practices of livable communities and sustainable development.OUR VALUESWe value customer service, collaboration, diversity, fiscal accountability, innovation, sustainability and safety.Employees and representatives of BFT are expected to uphold our values and mission.NATURE OF POSITION Coordinate and maintain the Agency’s Travel Training Program to educate and train groups including seniors, individuals with special needs, students, and transit commuters about the public transit system.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes travel options in the community using local fixed route servicesConduct travel instructional program activities including the development of individual plans and instruction process, training delivery, and client notification of eligibility and status.Assist customers with trip planning and provide information relating to transit routes and schedules as necessary; provide information about fare tools.Prepare correspondence and/or follow-up materials for potential clients and current users of transit services.Maintain up-to-date transit system information including changes to schedules, routes, rider alerts, and pertinent rider information.Perform training and practice for clients with mobility devices on boarding and alighting fixed route buses.Assists customers identifying the most appropriate transit solutions for their transportation needs.Writes and maintains reports for travel including initial intake assessment, goal setting and travel training plan, progress evaluations, and summary reports.Relays information to appropriate personnel regarding barrier assistance issues with fixed route system.Design individual travel based on functional mobility and cognitive needs assessment.Establishes collaborative relationships with other community agencies, organizations, and transit professionals to expand mobility solutions for customers.Respond to program inquiries.Compile, maintain, evaluate, and report on travel training statistics.Communicates with the travel trainee and their support network (families, support personnel, agencies, etc.)Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures for vehicles and pedestrians in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.Work with and maintain confidential information.Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.Other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESBasic knowledge of travel training methods and practices.Familiarity with training methods, tools, and techniques.Basic knowledge and operation of accessibility-related equipment and features based on ADA regulations.Familiar with the geography, major transit routes, and landmarks of Benton and Franklin Counties; read schedules, paper/electronic maps and comprehend directions of travel.Ability to relate and communicate with diverse groups with empathy and respect.React quickly and calmly in emergency situations and adopt an effective course of action within established guidelines.Understand and apply customer service methods, including telephone etiquette, patience, conflict resolution, and persuasion.Basic understanding of Federal, State, and local laws, and regulations related to assigned activities.Understand and apply Federal Transit Administration regulations and guidance related to the ADA.Efficient in basic clerical duties such as filing, typing, faxing, recordkeeping, and data entry.Effectively represent the Agency in a variety of public and private sector activities.Communicate ideas and concepts effectively through presentations to small and large audiences.Write clear, concise reports and other documentation.Learn new technologies, policies, procedures and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.Utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet business needs.Understand, follow, and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Work as a team member and independently; effectively apply organizational and time management skills; meet deadlines and comply with Agency policies.Exercise sound judgment in making decisions.Focus on tasks and recall details; handle frequent interruptions.OTHER CHARACTERISTICS Collaboration: Shares time and knowledge with others; adjusts priorities as circumstances dictate; follows through on commitments, accepts responsibility for actions, resolves interpersonal conflicts constructively.Diversity: Demonstrates an awareness and respect of cultural and individual values. Must possess a valid driver’s license.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS NonePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSFour-years of experience in customer service and training, preferably in the transit industry. One-year of experience performing ADA assessments. Associates degree in medical, education or related field preferred.Bilingual (English/Spanish) able to read, write, and speak.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSGenerally sedentary in nature; occasionally stand and walk; intermittently kneel, stoop, bend and twist at the waist, and reach overhead; sit for long periods of time. Rarely kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift, push/pull, or carry up to 40 pounds. Good vision to read print and computer screen. Hear and speak to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to include repetitive keyboarding, grasping and reaching to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and/or standard office equipment.WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed in an office environment where noise, distractions, and lack of privacy may be present. Operate a motor vehicle.
