Job Description : Who we are:

In support of that mission, the Fulton Library provides user-centered services, various learning spaces, and essential resources.
The Information Services department provides leadership for the Fulton Library’s instruction and research help services. We are a service-oriented team of librarians who support students and faculty in their pursuit of and creation of knowledge and in the development of vital information literacy skills needed for success in work and life.

What you’ll be doing:
The Fulton Library at Utah Valley University seeks an innovative, engaging, and student-centered individual to provide leadership as our Librarian – Instruction Coordinator. Under the direction of the Head of Information Services, this librarian will coordinate the library’s Instruction Program, including proactive outreach and collaboration with faculty in the university’s First Year Writing Program, scheduling workshops taught by a team of librarians, identifying opportunities for library instruction throughout the university curriculum, and ongoing information literacy curriculum development in both in-person and online learning environments.

This librarian will teach information literacy instruction sessions to diverse populations of students, provide professional research help to students and faculty from a variety of educational backgrounds at an in-person help desk and virtually, oversee faculty liaison role and collection development for assigned areas, and perform a variety of other professional tasks including but not limited to library representation on regional or university committees or task forces. This librarian will also teach sections of SLSS 1050: Library Research, a for-credit elective course taught through the university’s Student Leadership and Success Studies department.

Work Schedule Note:
Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required to provide instruction and research help support.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited ALA library college or university with a master’s of Library Science degree is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
Knowledge of library instruction methods and services.
Knowledge of technologies and tools to deliver instructional content such as learning management systems, emerging instructional technologies, and presentation tools.
Knowledge of current library and educational trends.
Knowledge of the use and content of reference sources as well as ability to match a wide variety of user needs with appropriate resources.
Knowledge of methods in the evaluation and selection of print and non-print sources.
Knowledge of library operations.

Skills:
Skills in developing collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the university and within the library to extend instruction activities.
Strong instructional skills, including the ability to develop instructional materials and present instruction to students and faculty one-on-one, in individual classes, and as part of a required course.
Proficiency in the use of computers, peripherals, and software applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to assist patrons with their use.
Abilities:
Ability to oversee and provide leadership for a dynamic and innovative library instruction program.
Ability to provide library instruction program outreach and communication to faculty.
Ability to provide formal instruction in a variety of settings based on information literacy theories.
Ability to plan, implement, and assess learning outcomes.
Ability to apply the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
Ability to coordinate library services with other departments.
Ability to develop new ideas and contribute to library improvements and outreach efforts.
Ability to be self-directed and meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work flexibly and creatively with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduate study and/or professional experience in library instruction or library operations is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Occasional bending or stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Frequent use of fine hand manipulation, both at computer and in the reference areas.
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, talking; expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing, seeing, and vision ability.
Occasional need to climb, kneel, reach, grasp, and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
