Job Title: Food Inspector
Location: Cache, Weber, Box Elder, and Davis County

Job Description:
The Utah Department of Agriculture is looking for a Meat Inspector to partnership with our plant owners and ensure meat products are clean, wholesome and properly labeled. You will gain hands on experience inspecting meat slaughter and processing establishments.

Principal Duties:
Ante-mortem and Post-mortem inspection of livestock.
Inspections of processing plants.
Work in conditions ranging from 100 degrees to freezing temperatures.
Red meat viscera inspection requires palpitating of organs and slicing with extremely sharp knives.
Check color and abnormalities of product that would make it unfit for human consumption.
Driving to different regions to inspect meat establishments.
Perform sanitation standards and operating procedures, hazard analysis and critical control point evaluation Consumer Protection inspection tasks.
Ideal Candidate:
Safe operation of either a State owned or personal vehicle is required to perform State business and an acceptable safe driving record must be maintained.
Perform complex inspections to ensure continuous compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
Evaluates livestock or poultry prior to slaughter for eligibility. Ensures compliance with humane handling of livestock. Performs ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of livestock and poultry.
Evaluates and reviews establishment procedures and implementation of written programs.
Prepares and distributes reports and correspondence, conducts and documents meetings.
Performs daily sanitation inspections both pre-operational and operational. Schedules and performs inspection tasks for verification of compliance. Documents findings of noncompliance, takes control when warranted.

Example of Duties
Schedules and conducts inspections and/or investigations.
Inspects agricultural products such as meat and poultry products.
Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.
Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements.
Conducts on-site reviews and confers with staff and agency officials on problem areas. Interprets, clarifies, explains and applies agency policy and procedures, business practices, federal or state laws and regulations, etc.
Supplemental Information
for the purpose of examining brands, marks, certificates of brand inspection, and bills of lading or bills of sale relating to the livestock in transit. This job is not eligible for Public Safety Retirement.
exposure to adverse, inclement, and varying weather conditions
Must be licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
