About Us
Wasatch Adaptive Sports is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides recreational, educational, and social programming to children, adults, and veterans with adaptive needs. Snowbird is a key supporter of WAS and houses one of the organization’s offices at the resort. WAS provides spring, summer, and fall programming along the Wasatch Front and office in Murray, UT, as well as winter programming at Snowbird. Visit wasatchadaptivesports.org to learn more.
What You’ll Do
Under the direction of designated Program Coordinator of Wasatch Adaptive Sports, teach adaptive cycling, mountain biking, and paddling in the spring, summer, and fall months to children, adults and veterans with adaptive needs. Potential for year-round employment, which includes teaching skiing, snowboarding, ski biking, snowshoeing, and related activities in winter months.
As a summer adaptive sports instructor at WAS, you will:
Collaborate with other WAS staff, instructors, and volunteers to ensure overall program success.
Teach cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding program lessons according to WAS teaching progressions.
Learn to adapt all equipment to varying abilities through trainings and lessons.
Develop a strong teaching ability by regularly attending in-house clinics and other professional training.
Establish a strong pre-lesson and on-trail assessment.
Adhere to all risk management protocols to ensure safety of all students and instructors.
Track and evaluate student goals and progressions.
Communicate respectfully and think critically to promote positive program culture.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
1-2 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
First Aid/CPR/AED Certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
1 year of experience teaching sports or recreation skills, preferably to people with adaptive needs.
Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Must be able to ride a bike independently.
Must be competent in basic mobile and desktop technology user experiences.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Commitment to continuous improvement.
Practice effective team behavior and demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships.
Work Schedule
Consistent weekly shift contingent on program schedule on designated days Tuesday through Saturday.
Regular interaction with the public in variable weather conditions in locations throughout Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
Must be able to perform outdoor physical work for long periods of time.
Must provide personal transportation to/from program locations throughout Salt Lake county.
