Position : Part Time Police Support Technician
Job Description : OverviewThe Louisville Police Department is hiring two Part Time Police Support Technicians. This position will work 20 hours a week. The Police Support Technician (PST) will respond to citizen requests for crime reporting and other incidents over the telephone and in person to document the information in official police reports. Please check your email frequently during the hiring process or junk mail.Examples of DutiesTake initial reports from victims, witnesses, and suspects for non-emergency incidents and crimesOperate CAD System or ability to learnPrepare reports utilizing Tyler Incode Records Management SystemEnter/interpret information in NCIC/CCICMaintain knowledge of state, municipal, criminal, and traffic lawsCollect and book property and evidenceConduct fingerprinting utilizing LIVESCANTestify in courtRespond to accidents and take accident reports. Issue municipal summonses as appropriateRespond to the scene to perform support services and document and collect physical evidence as requiredAssist with stalled motorists, traffic hazards and helps with traffic controlComplete VIN verificationsOperate a City vehicle safely in non-emergency situationsAbility to maintain composure and be professional while dealing with antagonistic people and situationsTrack, monitor, and follow up on abandoned vehicles and parking violationDuties include, but are not limited to: answer calls, complete appropriate and required paperwork, resolve conflict, communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals, disseminate information as requiredCommunicate using the computer, telephone, cell phone, two-way radio, and intercom system.Assist in monitoring the security at the front lobby.Provide walk-ins with assistance.Participate in training as required for the position.Notify Duty Sergeant of emergency situations.Perform other duties as assigned.General QualificationsTRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent required.Law Enforcement experience highly preferred.Associates Degree or 60 college credit hours in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or related field from a college or university with accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education strongly preferred.OR if no Associates Degree, a minimum of 2 years of active duty military experience with an honorable discharge.Accredited BA/BS degree in the aforementioned areas of study is desired.A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Detail orientedDecisive– Makes well-informed, effective, and timely decisions, even when data is limited or solutions produce unpleasant consequences;
