Automation Specialist
The Automation Specialist is a key component of solution delivery. Expected to be a highly analytical and collaborative individual, who is strong in both written and verbal communication and has the ability to define test automation approach and strategy, elicit and document test scope, provide leadership and guidance to others as well as support test automation scenario design and execution.
Work you will do
As an “Automation Specialist”, you will be responsible for ensuring automated scenario design/scripting/execution is properly scoped and delivered as well as ensure that overall effort aligns to defined automation framework, strategy and best practices.
Additional responsibilities may include establishing or contributing input to automation framework and/or strategy for delivery (including toolset selection), as well as scope elicitation and documentation. Automation Specialist are expected to have the ability to work across multiple projects in parallel as well provide effective team leadership and oversight to Automation Engineers or other resources as needed thru the delivery process.
Responsible for ensuring automation strategy exist for the effort and that strategy is clearly documented and communicated to the delivery team
Responsible for ensuring automation resources have clear understanding of scope, data and automation strategy.
Provide work estimates, assisting others as needed, based upon functional requirements
Facilitate coordination and review/update of scope with automation and project leadership
Creation of both UI and Non-UI automated test scenarios from provided requirements (test scenarios)
Ensure alignment of automation design and data consumption with overall test data management, automation strategy, and best practices established for the project
Complete setup and execution of automated scenarios in established test management platform (VSTS, QC), in a manner ensuring traceability and logging of test results is present as required per engagement
Provide analysisdocumentationcommunication of test results with the ability to perform complex root cause analysis across a wide variety of technologies
Create “automated utilities” to support overall testing efforts (data loading or establishment of test preconditions are common undertakings)
Provide input to delivery standards, project level automation strategy and established best practices
Ensure individual and team project task are properly entered and updated with established ALM/Test Management platform (VSTS, MTM, TFS)
Construction and delivery of project level presentations
Provide timely communication of issues, risk, and impediments to automation and project management
Promote knowledge sharing and team training via delivery of internal automation training programs
Support research efforts on emerging technologies
Train and mentor junior team members
Provide solutions to automation challenges encountered
Qualification:
Educational Qualification: Engineering or Computer Science / Bachelor’s Degree
5+ years of prior experience within automation delivery (scope elicitation and documentation, scenario design, execution, results analysis and reporting)
Experience in delivery of both UI and Non-UI (API) automation solutions
Advanced knowledge of automated scripting software (MF UFT/Selenium/MS-Xamerin) and experience in leveraging tools across multiple technologies (Web, Windows, Mobile, SAP, etc.)
Advanced knowledge of software development concepts and code design with exposure to one or more languages (VBS/Windows Shell Scripting/.NET/JAVA)
Basic knowledge in of database structure and query commands (SQL Server / ORACLE / HANA)
Advanced knowledge on test and application lifecycle management platforms (ALM/MTM/VSTS/TFS/QC)
Exposure to working within Agile environment and solid understanding of DevSecOps/DevOps automation principles (continuous delivery pipeline)
Excellent interpersonal and both written and verbal communication skills
Experienced in designing test automation to support cross browser compatibility
Experience with testing software environment setup and configuration
Prior exposure to working with geographically distributed and culturally diverse work groups.
Preferred:
Exposure to mobile device test automation (Appium, Perfecto Mobile, MSMC, MFMC)
Prior experience establishing and operating automated testing as part of continuous delivery pipeline
Industry certifications in field of test automation
Experience in supporting custom objects (extensibility of test automation tools)
Strong management and leadership capabilities, with the ability to energize and inspire others
