Job Description : Overview:

The Institute of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism is hiring four research assistants to assist with several visitor use monitoring and management projects throughout Utah. Specific duties include conducting on-site surveys with outdoor recreationists at various outdoor recreation access points (trailheads, forest roads, lakes/reservoirs, boat ramps, etc.) throughout National Forests, National Parks, National Monuments as well as at state parks throughout Utah. The data collected through the survey efforts will be used by the USDA National Forest Service, the National Park Service, and Utah State Parks to track visitation patterns and trends, estimate visitors’ economic impact, evaluate the condition of outdoor recreation settings and outdoor recreation infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
Conducting on-site surveys with outdoor recreationists at various outdoor recreation access points (trailheads, forest roads, lakes/reservoirs, boat ramps, etc.) throughout National Forests, National Parks, National Monuments as well as at state parks throughout Utah.
Interacting with outdoor recreationists.
Conducting face to face interviews – up to forty per day.
Spend large amounts of time alone in remote areas for multiple days in varying weather conditions.
Camp alone in remote areas for multiple days.
Be able to navigate through remote, unfamiliar, and sometimes rough areas

Advertised Salary: $20 per hour ADA:

Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold. Additionally, indoor or outdoor work environments may include being confined or in narrow spaces for periods of time. Bending, crawling, and crouching may be required. Incumbents may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
