Reporting to the Director of the Union, the Associate Director for Union Operations advances the services and business operations for the Student Union on campus and contributes to making all services successful. This position is part of the Student Affairs Division at the University of Utah.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director for the Union:

Serves as the Director in the absence of the Director as needed.
Establishes and achieves monetary goals for the Student Union operations including but not limited to; Services Desk, Union Recreation, Union Events and Scheduling Services, and Custodial Services.
Will be knowledgeable about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion best practices as they relate to the mission of the department and university as a whole.
Conducts major assessment initiatives for the Student Union and its operations.
Directly supervises the employees who comprise the Events and Scheduling Department.
Advises and assists the Director in planning, directing and reporting program activity, and developing and implementing procedures for Union operations.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, professional contact with colleagues, attending professional conferences and other mediums that will continue professional development.
Coordinates among Student Union staff regarding facility hours and staffing. Interprets administration policies and makes recommendations for further advancement of the facility to the Director.
Oversees Marketing and Communications from a high-level perspective and assists the Assistant Director for Marketing with marketing vision.
Identify and provide access to continuing education and professional development opportunities to promote the continuous improvement of the professional competence and skills of all personnel.
Intentionally develop and maintain effective organizational culture, with focus on retention of staff, onboarding, and staff morale.
Utilize qualitative and quantitative measurement tools to inform facility enhancements and long-term capital planning to support the sustainability and operations of residential service areas.
Participates in ongoing Union development efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required (2 years of related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Master’s degree in a related area preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Department Specific Requirements:

Master’s degree in a related area preferred.
A minimum of 6+ years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a field with transferrable skills. The committee values diverse experience in fields in and out of Higher Education.
Demonstrated skills in the supervision of staff including: hiring, onboarding, training, providing ongoing performance feedback, delegation, and building a collaborative team environment.
Understanding of facility management practices.
