Duties include:Providing exceptional customer service to visitorsAs an education proxy to the NPS, respond to visitor questions as empowered by the level of training and refer visitors to NPS rangers as needed to ensure accurate information is provided to visitorsAchieve sales and membership goalsSet up and break down retail desk aboard cruise ships, stock, and neatly maintain sales area throughout the day.Be a positive representative of Alaska Geographic and its Partners.The Sales Rep reports to the Branch Manager and will work closely with National Park Service Staff.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Achieve or surpass branch gross sales and membership recruitment goals as specified by Alaska Geographic by actively engaging with customers with every sale.Build and maintain a positive working relationship with key Alaska Geographic Partners (National Park Service, Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Land Management). Partners are considered our customers and should be treated with the utmost professionalism.Provide exceptional customer service both internally (other AK Geo staff) and externally (Partners and Visitor Center customers).Monitor product inventory including sales product, membership premiums and all marketing collateral including signage, stays within acceptable levels, inventory received/transferred paperwork is documented, low-profit products are marked for discount as appropriate, sales are processed correctly in POS systems, membership registrations are properly uploaded and products/membership materials are merchandised to make the most out of the sales floor space available.Responsible for proper recording of sales onboard ships, including reconciling sales against collected receipts and sold inventory levels.Maintain professional, customer-oriented communication with Partner staff, answering questions or escalating concerns to the Retail Operations Manager as appropriate.Participate in inventory counting, following accounting best practices at the end of the season.Alaska Geographic employees must follow HR policies, guidelines, and procedures stated in the Employee Manual and Retail Training Manual.Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ABILITIES, OR KNOWLEDGE: Proactively problem solve quickly and implement solutions.Working knowledge of computers, including Word, Excel, and Square POS.Ability to communicate clearly, both verbal/written. Retain and accurately pass on information to visitors.Overtime, weekend and holiday work may be necessary during the summer season. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and able to work in a very fast-paced and sometimes hectic environment.Multitask and prioritize multiple initiatives.Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 15 pounds to a shelf height of 5 feet.Independently travel to Gustavus. A valid driver’s license and independent mode of transportation might be required. There is potential for housing and relocation assistance.Safety is always the HIGHEST concern.Staff must be ready to board the NPS M/V Serac one hour before embarkation.All staff must complete NPS M/V Serac safety training, and demonstrate their safe abilities on the NPS boarding simulator facility to the satisfaction of the transfer vessel captain and crew before transferring to any ship.Staff must be physically and mentally able to negotiate underway transfers between two moving vessels in Glacier Bay waters. All passengers transferring must have the mobility and strength to safely climb a standard pilot “Jacob’s ladder” to pilot door. The M/V Serac captain and crew will cancel the transfer of any individual if they feel the individual in question is not prepared or fit for the transfer.Staff will not consume alcohol within 8 hours of report time for work, and the consumption of alcohol during duty is strictly prohibited and grounds for immediate termination.Staff will not purchase items on board cruise ships, and will not transfer personal cargo to and from Bartlett Cove on the NPS transfer vessel. There are weight limits for gear and it is a customs violation to remove items from the ship.NPS policy states that all bags involved in the transfer are subject to search at any time and contraband is grounds for immediate termination and/or breach of agreement.This position will require an NPS background check and security application for Princess Cruises.Sales Reps must comply with all federal, NPS, state, and ship-specific vaccination requirements and other COVID-19 protocols. The NPS requires full vaccination and rated masks to board their vessels in Alaska.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Degree or equivalent required.
