Job Description : The purpose of this classification is to inform the community of our mission using multiple platforms (marketing materials, social media, website, events) and keep the STEP FORWARD brand visible and in good standing in the community. Supervises, directs, and evaluates Communications staff and provides overall direction to maximize the success of the Department.
Develops and oversees work plans and budgets to ensure resource adequacy, coverage, and control.
Approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines employees as appropriate.
Completes employee performance appraisals; reviews and approves job orders for new or vacated positions.
Reviews and approves separation notices.
Directs work and acts as a liaison between employees and management, and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Monitors and evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations for staff training and development.
Leads strategic communications strategy for the organization in collaboration with CEO and business lines.
Interviews employees and customers to create news and social media stories about the area population and how the STEP FORWARD agency can offer community services, learning opportunities and workshops and spotlight partnerships and innovation; writes, edits, and distributes press releases, fact sheets, talking points, blogs, posts, and targeted outreach marketing materials for the agency.
Creates and maintains accurate media lists and tracks media attention; crafts social media plans to broaden awareness of the organization, its mission, and program offerings for residents; supports Head Start recruitment, personal and professional development outreach, job training and manages the organization’s social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; tracks results and tailor’s campaigns to achieve results.
Oversees agency website and posts timely content; monitors, updates, and implements improvements to enhance technological communication efforts; manages marketing and educational materials to all locations in the agency; ensures consistency of brand messages; creates and conducts surveys and gather and analyzes customer insights.
Collaborates with outside consultants/vendors to complete key initiatives; manages and maintains agency database; creates and maintains writing standards for staff, volunteers, and board members; and cultivates and sustains positive community relations.
Participates in and attends various meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars for professional development and to learn best practices that will assist in performing in the position.
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field required; supplemented by three years of work experience in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism preferably in a large multi- location non-profit or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
