Job Description : Duties
The incumbent will conduct research, write text, select images, and develop graphics using contemporary interpretive techniques and approaches to create historically accurate, fair, unbiased, and engaging interpretive media on a variety of topics relevant to the Park Centennial Celebration. Material developed must be presented in a non-technical manner that is engaging to a wide audience. An aptitude for learning and sharing the complex technical and social history associated with the Park Centennial Celebration.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Contiguous-to-area Requirements

Individual must be certified as maintaining a permanent and exclusive residence within, or contiguous to, a field activity or district, and whose residency is expected to continue, indefinitely, without change.
As a minimum, the applicant must indicate their place of physical residence for the past two (2) years as being contiguous (adjacent to the boundary of the park).
Individual must be dependent for their livelihood primarily upon employment available within that field activity (at the park).
Both conditions, regarding residency and dependency, must exist and be made a matter of record on the Contiguous to Area Certification form.
This authority does not include persons who reside in park housing or who move into park housing once employed.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/15/2022-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume
MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: preparing photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. . You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of progressively higher level graduate education, with a Major study in commercial art, photography, visual communication, videography, graphic design, cinematography, film studies, film/video production, digital filmmaking, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the production of digital videos. (One year of Graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours). IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit.You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of hours of directly related graduate level and divide by the number of hours in one year of graduate coursework (18 semester hours/27 quarter hours) to determine your percentage of education . Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
You must include transcripts.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Additional information

Physical Demands: The work is normally sedentary and requires long periods of stationary work at a computer work-station. Work may require moderate physical exertion fabricating exhibits and signs, working from ladders, and lifting and working with maintenance staff installing signs and exhibits. Field visits may be necessary for on-site inspection of phases of the production of a visual product. The incumbent occasionally must lift moderately heavy objects and operates hand tools and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, levels, rivet guns, saws, drills, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in a typical office setting, however, when work is performed outside the office, it may be in field environments or at dirty, dusty, cold, hot, wet or some otherwise uncomfortable locations indoors and outdoors, where the exhibit or display is located. Work involves moderate risks or discomforts such as working with power tools.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
