Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTION Summit Academy Schools, Inc Human Resources and Benefits Specialist 12 Month Calendar Purpose Statement Under the direction of the Business Administrator, the job of Human Resources/BenefitSpecialist is done for the purpose/s of coordinating all aspects of employee application, payroll, and benefits administration; providing information to a wide variety of internal and external individuals/organizations; resolving problems and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and/or laws.This job reports to: Business Operations ManagerEssential Functions Performs a variety of specialized duties including posting of open positions on applicable websites/locations.Processes employee terminations and retirements, notify appropriate retirement system of employee status; adjust final pay; maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.Verifies teachers and other licensed employees have proper credentials recorded with the applicable office; provide information on licensure requirements to administrators, teachers, substitutes, and applicants; notify certificated staff of license expiration dates and maintain current information on Licensure requirements.Maintains systems for employee fingerprint clearance, and other related information; obtain related documentation and clearance related to screening for employment.Administers employee benefit programs in compliance with carrier contracts (e.g., enrolling new employees, explaining benefit options, organizing benefit fairs, mediating benefit eligibility and payment issues, open enrollment, etc.) for the purpose of providing maximum coverage to employees within contract specifications.Maintains records, policies, and contracts of the property and liability, worker’s compensation, and student accident insurance plans.Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g., applicants, employees, benefit carriers, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of complying with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.Coordinates a wide variety of employment, benefit, and payroll processes for the purpose of meeting charter school staffing requirements while complying with established guidelines.Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records (e.g., provider contracts, claim files, employee records, vacancy listings, applicant status, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail.Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.Prepares a variety of reports and related documents (e.g., forms, vacancy listings, recruitment ads, pamphlets, identification cards, verification requests of employment, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation and complying with mandated requirements.Researches information required to manage assignments including reviewing relevant policies and current practices (e.g., application processing, discrepancies between employee, benefit provider/s, and government agencies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of records and resolving issues.Responds to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel and/or identifying the relevant issues.Other Functions Other duties as assigned by the Business AdministratorJob Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include applying charter school, state and federal policies and regulations; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include codes, regulations & laws related to the job functions; general insurance including COBRA, AB 528, FMLA and SB 1910; health and welfare programs; personnel practices applied within a charter school environment; interpreting contract language; and codes, and concepts of grammar and punctuation.ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment islimited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; maintaining confidentiality; working with constant interruptions; and working with detailed information/data.Responsibility Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job’s functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.Experience, Education & Certifications: Looking for someone with experience in related area. Minimum number of years is not required to apply.Looking for experience interacting and influencing all levels of organization with confidence, building trust and rapport.
